Endorse Curtis For the WEGO Health Awards #WEGOHealthAwards
I am excited to announce that I have been nominated for the WEGO Health Advocating for Another Award in the 2018 WEGO Health Awards.
WEGO Health is a mission-driven company connecting health care with the experience, skills, and insights of patient leaders. They are the world’s largest network of patient leaders, working across virtually all health conditions and topics.
The WEGO Health Awards were created to celebrate those who tirelessly support the mission of WEGO Health: to empower the patient voice. With 16 award categories, the WEGO Health Awards are the only awards across all conditions and platforms, that recognize the over 100 thousand inspiring Patient Leaders who raise awareness, share information, and support their communities - but often without recognition.
Since I was diagnosed with Stage IV Bladder Cancer at 39, I made the commitment to share my cancer journey on my social media platforms. Through my Bladder Cancer Journey, the #CrushItForCurtis was started to show I am committed to living to win and my support network is standing with me on my journey.
Being nominated for this award Advocating for Others is inspiring. Supporting Bladder Cancer and the Bladder Cancer community has given me purpose and drives me to thrive and hope one day there will be a cure for Bladder Cancer.
In 2017, I was awarded the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Networks (BCAN) 2017 Best of BCAN Award in appreciation for volunteer excellence and commitment to the bladder cancer community.
Throughout my journey in addition to advocating and participating in a clinical trial to help advance Bladder Cancer treatments. I still wanted to do more in December 2018 I founded the Crush It For Curtis Foundation to help further those touched by Bladder Cancer focusing on empowering Bladder Cancer patients to learn and have a discussion with their Physicians about Next-Generation Sequencing, Immunotherapy, and Clinical Trials.
In July 2018 I attended my first advocacy event in Washington DC on Capitol Hill. I was able to share a piece of my Bladder Cancer story and be apart of an advocacy effort to raise more awareness about Young Adults With Cancer and the increasing financial toxicity Young Adults face during their cancer journey.
I am committed to advocating for Bladder Cancer awareness, sharing my personal journey, changing the stigmas of Bladder Cancer, and further advance Bladder Cancer treatments through research, clinical trials, Next-Generation sequencing, and Immunotherapy. I want to thank those who nominated me and have endorsed me for this award.
This year, the 16 WEGO Health Award winners will be honored at an in-person celebration in October co-hosted by the Society of Participatory Medicine at the Connected Health Conference.
It is important for me to attend the health conference because I work vigorously to make the world better for Bladder Cancer patients, loved ones, caregivers and the medical community.
